Depression Treatment in San Jose

Care for major depression, persistent depression, and the burnout that can come with school, work, and life transitions. In person in San Jose or by telehealth across California.

When your motivation disappears

Depression does not always look like sadness. It can look like exhaustion that sleep does not fix, feeling numb or disconnected, irritability, or losing interest in things that used to matter. Getting through the day starts to take everything you have.

Signs it may be depression

Depression can look like feeling down, empty, or hopeless most days, or losing interest in things you used to enjoy. Sleep often changes, with much more or much less than usual, and energy stays low even after rest. Concentrating and making decisions get harder, appetite or weight may change, and many people start pulling away from friends, family, school, or work.

If these have lasted more than a couple of weeks and are affecting your life, it is worth being evaluated. BrainHelp sees adults and students from San Jose and across the South Bay in person, and anywhere in California by telehealth.

Burnout or depression?

Many people first describe their depression as burnout: a demanding program, a new job, caregiving, or years of pushing through. Burnout and depression overlap a lot. A careful evaluation helps tell them apart and rule out other contributors like ADHD, sleep problems, thyroid issues, or substance use.

Antidepressants often take several weeks to reach full effect, so early follow-up visits are scheduled to make sure the plan is on track and adjusted if it is not.

๐ŸšจIf you are in crisis: call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room. BrainHelp is not a crisis service.
